I sometimes break the kit down to a 4 piece for certain gigs.
I use a 5 1/2 X 14 clear Pork Pie, Pig Lite snare with this kit and it screams.

This is my 5 piece Tama Rockstar kit i use with The Misteriosos.
The deeper  toms really cut in the bigger venues.
I use a Pearl 6 1/2 X 14 chrome snare drum which sounds great with the kit.
